Clinical Imaging

Part of the difference you will experience in your visit to South Main Chiropractic Clinic is the imaging employed by the clinic to better evaulate how best to provide your care.  The two primary imaging tools of South Main Chiropractic Clinic are the Insight Subluxation Station and the Associate Platinum Foot Scanner.

Insight Subluxation Station

Insight Subluxation Station uses safe, pain free and effective tests. It includes the sEMG (surface electromyography) scan to measure the amount of electrical activity in the muscles and thermal scanning to measure skin temperature along the spine. These technologies are quick and easy to perform, and are uniquely able to show the results in color-coded visual images that are easily understandable.

Surface Electromyography (sEMG)

Electromyography is a technique for evaluating and recording the activation signal of muscles.  In the case of the Insight Subluxation Station, the muscles being evaluated are the spinal muscles that support and protect the spine and its vertebral bones.  When a vertebra becomes misaligned (or subluxated) the surrounding muscles enter a protect mode by tensing.  The data is then compared against normal amounts of activity for that spinal level and displayed in color-coded bars on each side.  White represents normal activity while green, blue, and red indicate progressively higher abnormal levels of activity.  As part of your consultation, an sEMG will be performed to evaluate your status and follow-up scans will be performed as your treatment progresses.

Thermal Scan

The Thermal Scan provides additional data as to which areas will need to be treated as part of your care.  Variations in temperature between the left and right sides of the spine are an additional indicator of excessive muscle guarding.  A Thermal Scan may be performed as part of your initial examination, with follow-up scans to be performed at regular intervals.

Other Subluxations Station Diagnostics Which May Be Employed:

  • Pulse-Wave Profiler - Measures the rate and characteristics of your pulse to measure the nervous system as a whole.
  • Inclinometer - Measures range of motion in the neck and back with accuracy to 0.1 degrees.
  • Algometer - measures the sensitivity of specific spinal levels.

The Associate Platinum Foot Scanner

Foot_Scanner.jpg

The Associate Platinum is a key resource in the management of back pain.  How do the feet relate to the back?  When the arches of the feet are imbalanced (such as the scan to the right) the side of the body with the lower arches is typically lower as well (this is sometimes called a low hip).  This places significant strain on the joints of the spine, increasing the likelihood of low back pain.  By evaluating the arches of the feet and adressing these imbalances the occurrence and severity of low back can be reduced.  Treatment of foot-specific conditions can also be evaluated through the use of the Associate.
